Neurology Department at Annapurna Neurological Institute & Allied Sciences focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders and conditions affecting the nervous system. The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and the associated muscles.The primary objective of the neurology department is to provide comprehensive care for patients with neurological disorders, ranging from common conditions such as headaches and migraines to more complex diseases like epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and various forms of neuropathy. The department often collaborates closely with other medical disciplines, such as neurosurgery, radiology, and physical therapy, to ensure holistic patient care.
The department is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and equipment to facilitate accurate assessments and comprehensive evaluations of patients. We are equipped with neurophysiology labs for conducting EEGs and EMGs, neuroimaging facilities for MRI and CT scans, and specialized monitoring units for assessing brain activity, such as in epilepsy cases. In addition to diagnosis, the neurology department provides a range of treatment options tailored to each patient's specific condition. Treatment plans involves medication management, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other rehabilitative services. For certain conditions, such as brain tumors or vascular malformations, the department may work closely with the neurosurgery department to provide surgical interventions. -Cerebrovascular disorders: Ischaemic strokes including management of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Recanalization strategy including thrombolysis (IV tPA), thrombectomy
-Movement disorders: Management of Parkinson’s disease (PD) including young onset PD, essential tremor, Huntington’s disease, Dystonia, balance disorders, multiple system atrophy, MND, SMA as well as cerebellar ataxias
-Neurophysiological disorders: Management of all types of seizure disorders, Neuropathies
-Autoimmune Disorders: Advanced management of Myasthenia Gravis, Multiple Sclerosis, Transverse Myelitis, GBS, LEMS, ADEM
-Infections of Brain: Management of infective disorders of the brain and their sequelae; Meningitis, Meningoencephalitis, Encephalitis, Brain abscess, Parasitic infection (neurocysticercosis, toxoplasmosis)
-Headache disorders: primary headaches, tension headache, allergy or sinus headaches, cluster headache, hormone headache, all types of migraines, other chronic daily headaches
-Neurodegenerative disorders: Management of Alzheimer’s disease, Frontotemporal dementia, FAHR’s disease and other cognitive impairments
